Went to the Thai festival in Yoyogi today. Man, was it crowded! It’s over this weekend so you still have Sunday tomorrow if you missed it today. As with all festivals in Japan, a festival is not a festival without the yakisoba and okonomiyaki stalls.

Saturday, May 16th, 2009Vegetarian Fair 2008
Monday, October 20th, 2008There was another fair at Yoyogi Park this weekend. 東京国際菜食文化フェア2008. Vegan Fair. I’m not a vegetarian, but I do enjoy my greens. But I was a little disappointed because there wasn’t much to eat. Nothing quite as yummy looking as what I had at the Hokkaido Fair earlier.
PETA had a stall there, but no Aya Sugimoto… >< .
Hokkaido Fair 2008
Monday, October 6th, 2008Last weekend there was the Namaste India Fair. This weekend, there was the Hokkaido Fair! It was held at the same place; at Yoyogi Park right opposite NHK studio park. There were tons of yummy goodies, but the ones that I were looking forward to were crab and lamb. By the way, this is not really important, but BBQ-ed lamb is referred to as ジンギスカン (genghis khan, dschinghis khan, jingisukan). It has absolutely nothing to do with the songs. ^^.
Look at all the crabs blushing on the grill. Yummy. I wanted the orangey eggs… and I wanted lots of it! It was going for 500yen a shell. Pretty cheap for freshly grilled crab eggs. The legs and other parts were sold at 1000yen. You can see how popular 焼き蟹 (Yakigani) is by the length of the queue.
Namaste India 2008
Monday, September 29th, 2008Neil attended the Vietnamese Festival the week before. You can read about this experience here. I had wanted to go, but when I had time, the weather decided otherwise… but last week was a different matter.
Last weekend there was an India festival. The whole section of Yoyogi Park right opposite NHK Studio Park was cornered off and dedicated to this event. Stores were set up and many were promoting tours to India, Indian wares, arts and craft etc. Basically almost everything Indian. There were also movies from Bollywood. I grew up in a multi-racial and multi-ethnic environment, so I’ve been exposed to Indian culture. Indian movies are quite interesting, provided they come with subtitles. ^^. Long movies though, with lots of singing and dancing. I find it fascinating that whenever a song starts, dancers just pop out from thin air. ^^.
