Girls’ Generation

Tags: ,

Korean girl group Girls’ Generation singing their hit song Gee. I presume it’s a hit cause it’s still in my head. I suppose the tight jeans, heels and the provocative hip gyrations had something to do with it too! ^^.

If you didn’t understand what was being sung, not to worry, I found another version with the same provocative hip gyrations, but instead of jeans, they are in hot pants. AND some kind soul added in some English subtitles too.

Songs about Sakura

Tags: , ,

It’s Sakura season again! Was watching a “Good Morning Japan” program on TV the other day and according to them and the nameless people on the street they surveyed, these are the top 3 sakura songs… ever, as of March 2009.

Number 3 is 桜坂 (Sakurazaka) by 福山雅治.

Amagigoe 天城越え

Tags: ,

I’m starting to get into Enka (演歌).

The term Enka refers to the type of Japanese traditional and melodramatic popular songs developed in the postwar Shōwa period (1926-1989)… Enka lyrics are usually about the themes of love and loss, loneliness, enduring hardships, and persevering in the face of difficulties, even suicide or death. Enka suggests a more traditional, idealized, or romanticized aspect of Japanese culture and attitudes, comparable to American country and western music.

What got me interested was not Jero. Rather, it was the song Amagigoe (天城越え) by Ishikawa Sayuri (石川さゆり). Lucky for me, it’s in the Wii Karaoke I bought earlier. ^^.

I’m going to start exploring Enka a little more… does this mean I’m getting old? ^^.

Merry Christmas

It’s Christmas Eve already! Time really flies when you’ll looking back. Anyone still doing any last minute shopping? I bought my last present on amazon and had it shipped to me yesterday. It’s all wrapped up in newspaper… yes… newspaper. By the time I realised that I didn’t have any wrapping paper at home, it was already too late. Newspapers are fine right. It’s the thought that counts.

Anyway, here’s a little video to ease the 12 pains of Christmas. ^^. Merry Christmas everyone! To those who don’t celebrate christmas, Happy Holidays (not that we’re having any here in Japan ^^). Enjoy the song with a walk through Ueno.
