The ramen yokocho is probably a must for visitors in Sapporo (often called the city of a thousand ramen). Walking through the alley, there is nothing else except ramen. I had hoped to spend some time trying out a couple of different ramen, but time was tight and one was all I could have.

Monday, December 22nd, 2008A Trip to Hell Valley
Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008Jigokudani (地獄谷) or Hell Valley is in Noboribetsu (登別), Hokkaido.
It’s barren and smells of sulphur. No wonder they call it Hell Valley. ^^.
Exclusive Potato from Hokkaido
Saturday, November 29th, 2008At this little shop in Otaru, I ran into the ever exclusive Jyagapokkuru. じゃがポックル。
It’s a pack of potato strips. Premium potato strips from a famous potato farm in Hokkaido. It was really really difficult to find this snack. It was sold out everywhere else.
Hokkaido from a bus window
Thursday, November 20th, 2008I don’t usually go on tours, but found myself in one on my first trip to Hokkaido. Hokkaido’s a big island. Maybe going on tour first gives one an idea of where to go spend time on the next trip. ^^. At least now I know if I’m not planning to spend time in Sapporo alone, I’ll need a car to get around. I think I’ll try Hakodate on my own next time around. But for now, enjoy these pics that you can only see from a bus window.
Hokkaido Markets
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008Let’s take a walk through some Hokkaido markets! We’ll start at the local supermarkets. No point looking at the usual stuff, so let’s just concentrate on the local fresh produce. Posful is the name of the local Jusco supermarket run by Aeon.
Salmon looks red and cheap.
Sounkyo-Kurodake
Monday, November 17th, 2008Kurodake 黒岳 is probably the tallest mountain in the the Daisetsuzan 大雪山 mountain range. Daisetsuzan is affectionally know as “The Roof of Hokkaido”.
Kurodake has a different face every season; a great place to visit all year round. Flowers in spring and summer, autumn leaves in autumn (obviously). And skiing/snowboarding in winter. An abundance of wildlife to see too, including the shy Hokkaido fox.
