I usually have my donuts or doughnuts at Mister Donut. What say you? Donut or doughnut? ^^. Occasionally I would treat myself to some premium cafe doughnuts like those I had when I visited Sendai. I don’t know if Krispy Kreme doughnuts are considered premium elsewhere, but in Japan, they sure are. My guess is, demand isn’t that great for Krispy Kreme doughnuts elsewhere. It has this neighbourhood doughnut store atmosphere, very much like Mister Donut, but sans the long queue. Maybe because more people prefer doughnuts to donuts. ^^.

Whenever I want to grab a doughnut/donut (ok… I’ll use donut to refer to both donut and doughnuts since it’s shorter to type), I want to grab a donut. I do not want to wait in line for more than 5 minutes. If I have to wait more than 5 minutes, I’m not grabbing a donut. I’m queueing for one. And I don’t really like queueing for donuts.

I haven’t tried any Krispy Kreme doughnuts yet. Probably will be waiting for a time when I can just waltz in without queueing up. I’ll let you know if its that good then. ^^.

At Mister Donut, I have a few favourites; Angel Cream and Sugar raised, among others. I’ll go with the original glazed and sugar donut next time I get a chance at grabbing a Krispy Kreme donut.

If you’re tight on cash and don’t mind reading second hand manga… and completely ok with going through and picking up what people throw away, here’s an unlikely treasure trove for you. You know what they say, “one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure”. Or was it just Danny who said that? ^^.

I used to pick up free manga from the magazine recycling bins on campus. They were just placed in a shelf-like bin, made it really easy to just pick and go. Was always one week, maybe 2, behind. Sometimes no one threw away those that I wanted to read… Does that even sound right? ^^.

I haven’t tried picking any up directly from domestic rubbish yet. But I gather it might make good (not to mention FREE) material for learning Japanese. ^^.

Sendai is a beautiful city. Lots of green, lots of beautiful girls and lots of beef tongue set meals. ^^. Although not as big a station as Tokyo or Shinjuku, Sendai station does have its very own sea of taxis!

A little bit about Sendai from big brother wikipedia.

Sendai (仙台市 Sendai-shi) is the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and the largest city in the Tōhoku (northeast) region. The city has a population of one million and is one of Japan’s seventeen designated cities. The city was founded in 1600 by the daimyo Date Masamune (伊達政宗 Date Masamune), and is well known by its nickname, the “City of Trees” (杜の都 Mori no Miyako).

You have to walk across a few train lines to get to the west exit on the other side. The west side is quite different. It feels spacious and more modern. Not much in terms of shopping though.

I’ve been to Sendai twice. Once for work and once and pleasure. It is one of my favourite cities in Japan. Wouldn’t mind staying there too. Sure, it’s a little far from Akiba, but I found a otaku hideout on my previous trip. That would scratch some itches. There’s even an Apple store there. Yodobashi is right next to the station, the west end. Some cities I heard don’t have Yodobashi… hmm…

Probably the things I’ll miss are the events that go on in Tokyo. ^^. Just wondering, anyone reading this lives in Sendai?

Have you been in a Japanese taxi? Sometimes I find the drivers are a little too liberal on the pedal and brake. Not to mention making quick and sudden turns. Must be because some roads here are pretty narrow. But I’m all used to it now. ^^.

The best way to get to Sendai from Tokyo? Hop on the shinkansen. If I remember correctly, it was about a 2 hour or so ride.

This is a place I would like to go in 2009. And it seems like I might already have a chance to go there in a few months… after winter. ^^. 天使の散歩道 (てんしのさんぽみち) or also referred to as エンジェルロード (Angel Road) is in Kagawa Prefecture (香川県) on Shikoku island. Angel Road appears twice a day. Good thing too. Wouldn’t want to wait a whole day just to walk back. ^^. It’s located in Shodoshima Town (小豆島町). Got you an English link here. It seems like a rather interesting town.

Shodoshima Town is renowned as the birthplace of olive cultivation in Japan, and as the setting for the movie based on Tsuboi Sakae’s novel “Twenty-four Eyes”. Many tourists come to see the Olive Park, the birthplace of olive growing, as well as the set used for the remake of “Twenty-four Eyes”, preserved in the “Twenty-four Eyes” Movie Studio. There are also many other sightseeing spots, including Kankakei Gorge, accounted as one of Japan’s three most beautiful gorges, and the Farming Village Kabuki Stage, which began in the 18th century. Kabuki is one of Japan’s most famous traditional performing arts, and was long one of the common class’s most popular forms of entertainment.

The place is well-known for tsukudani and somen. Tsukudani (佃煮)- fish or seaweed boiled in soy sauce. Somen (素麺) - a kind of Japanese vermicelli; fine, long noodles made from wheat flour, sesame oil and salt. Yum yum.

Can’t wait to go there!

Dug this up somewhere in my lab. 12GB of storage on a cassette tape. 125m of cassette tape! Anyone familiar with this kind of storage tapes? I haven’t used any before and don’t think I ever will… ^^. Went over to Amazon to check out the product description.
