I always spend new year’s day waiting for the first sunrise of the year – 初日の出 (hatsu hi no de).

This year was rather different. I wasn’t waiting for the sunrise. I was on the road heading to the airport. My plan was to spend the first few days of the year vacationing in Kagoshima. Caught glimpses of the sunrise as I drove to Haneda.
