Thai Festival 2010

Thai Fest 2010 001

Spent most of Sunday at the Thai Festival in Shibuya. It was really packed! I bet cell towers in the area were probably overworked. ^^.

It’s a huge contrast from what’s happening back in Bangkok. Everyone here was just having a ball enjoying the best of Thai cuisine. No reds, no yellows. Just all smiles.

Have always wanted to try this Thai restaurant in Jiyugaoka. But twice I went, twice I couldn’t get a table. Don’t think you can call it third time lucky, but I’m definitely going to reserve a table when I go next.

I got the “lap gai” and “pakimao”. How do you spell them right in Thai? They were pretty good.

Drinks drinks drinks.

I prefer Chang beer over Singha. Prefer its richer taste.

The weather was simply perfect for a Thai fest. In fact, the weather is always perfect when the Thai fest is on. ^^.

You like pig trotters? They are just heavenly when served in black vinegar and garlic.

What’s the first dish to catch your eye? For me, it was タイ風ビーフンスパイシーダックスープ.

Queueing up for my タイ風ビーフンスパイシーダックスープ. That duck is dead as a duck.

No Thai festival is complete with a bowl of spicy duck noodles. Yummy. This is my favorite Thai noodle. Love this even more than Som Tom!

Came home with a bag of mangosteens. Chilled mangosteens are simply the best after dinner. Cartons of mangoes will be arriving tomorrow. Going to get vitamin c, fibre, whatever’s-in-mangoes boost this coming week. ^^.

I didn’t like Thai food when I was younger because of the sour flavors, but I’m much more adventurous now. So yummy!

Hey, that’s a coincidence when I popped in and saw the Thai durians. We just ate one on Mother’s Day! Bought it at a grocery store in Yokohamabashi shoutengai for 1,700 yen (it was 1,800 yen but the seller gave a 100 yen discount, thinking that it was the first time I was going to try it ^0^ ! Hubby was eyeing that thorny king of fruit, but this one was not as good as the ones I bought years ago at a grocery store nearby my place which unfortunately no longer import any durians. This one was a bit hard, though the flesh were thick. Hubby commented that it smelled and tasted like big onions (tamanegi) and I think so, too.

3,500 yen per durian!!? Whoa! I wouldn’t buy it. The seller at Yokohamabashi offered me two durians for 3,000 yen. So for 3,500 yen, I can buy 2 durians and 7 mangosteens! :D
