Drinking shochu

Shochu

When visitors ask me what shochu is, I usually tell them it’s Japanese whiskey. There are a few different tastes when it comes to shochu. The taste depends on the ingredient used in distillation. The common ones are sweet potatoes, brown (black) sugar, barley and rice. You can easily tell where a particular shochu was made just from the ingredient used in distilling it.

End of Golden Week 2010

Bird on head

That’s it for Golden Week 2010. I trust everyone in Japan had a good holiday? I met up with a ton of old classmates who, due to work, all seem to be living outside Tokyo! It’s a good thing to meet and catch up with old friends. You get to trade stories and experiences. It’s really nice to see how each of us has grown… sideways. Given our age, we don’t grow upwards anymore. ^^.

It’s time to go back to work tomorrow and the day after before Saturday and Sunday comes around again.

Why I am tired

Red Bulls

I found an old piece I received in an email a very long time ago, when Singapore’s population was about 3million (when was that?). Thought I’ll share it with you.

How about a Red Bull shot when you’re tired? AU$4. Given today’s exchange rate, that’s about ¥350, or SG$5.

For a couple years, I’ve been blaming it on lack of sleep and too much pressure from my job. But recently, I discovered the real reason:

I’m tired because I’m overworked. The population of Singapore is about 3 million. Of which, 700 thousand are retired.

That leaves 2.3 million to do the work. There are 1.5 million in school, which leaves 800 thousand to do the work.

Of this, there are 400 thousand who are employed by the government – they do no work. Thus leaving 400 thousand others to do the work.

Another 200 thousand are in the Armed Forces, Police and Civil Defence, which leaves the remaining 200 thousand to do the work.

At any given time there are 154,000 people in hospitals, old folks home, etc. leaving 46,000 to do the work. Now, there are 45,998 people in prison.

That leaves just two people to do the work.

You and me.

And you’re sitting at your computer reading jokes.

No wonder I am tired.

If Red Bull shots aren’t your style, which size is you?
