I assume they leave the wipers up so they don`t freeze to the window. But I have spent a lot of time in cold places in the US and I never saw that nor did I ever have a problems with frozen wipers.

I used to love the first snow when I was at the University of Chicago. Being a Los Angeles native, I was always so amazed by how pretty it was. Then, of course, the snow continued to fall and fall and melt and freeze until it became a gray slush. After a month the novelty wears off a bit. Hehe. I still remember walking to my dorm from class and listening to the crunching of fresh snow under my shoes. I miss that.

I was totally stoked by the surprise snow! :D (Well not so surprising because I've been obsessively checking the weather forecasts hahaah) But I think your tip about writing Japanese everyday's swell. I've been meaning to write diary entries in Japanese for ages but I keep procrastinating. :O Is it sheer willpower that helps you keep writing a journal entry?

Lovely photos, much better than my half-arsed efforts!

Shame there's no more snow forecast; I was looking forward to some sledging!

I feel extra excited when it snows in Vancouver. It is usually very pretty, nice fluffy flakes making everything white. And at night, it feels extra quiet and bright outside. However, this year we haven't had much snow this Winter. We had one day in December and it all melted away on the next day. For the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, they are trucking snow to the mountains to ensure they have enough snow for the events ^^;

"Slopes can be extremely tricky for cars without snow chains." ... don't get me wrong but with this much snow I think snow tires are enough ... even for slopes.

You don't need snow chains with this much snow http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/4325814 - still with this much snow on slopes you may need snow chains ;)

Are dryers commonly used in Japan? Virtually all of my Japan-made clothing say to line dry and not use a dryer.

>Is it snowing where you are this time of the year?
You bet. Have had snow in DK for some weeks now. Can't remember the last time we got this amount of snow and it actually stayed there for more than a few days...

My twitterfeed has been full of snowy Tokyo photos today :) I thought the epic blizzard here on the east coast of the US would make me hate snow forever, but then I see it all pure and white, fluttering around me and love it all over again.

Have to say, this is the first time I've seen any shots of Tokyo town in snow - very pretty!
