Been busy with work and drinking parties the last 2 nights. Tis’ the season. ^^. Had also been helping out at a Applied Physics symposium too.
Any physicist out there reading this humble blog? If you need an excuse to visit Tokyo, here’s a valid one. ^^. Would like to direct your attention to PASPS VI which will be held next year 2010 at the University of Tokyo. It’s the 6thInternational Conference on Physics and Applications of Spin Related Phenomena in Semiconductors (PASPS-VI).
Been trying to think up some puns for the word “spin”. How’s
“No matter how you spin it, it’s still an electron”
Did anyone get that?

I can’t relate to the physicist joke, but the photo is spectacular. Is this a view from your apartment? Love it!

Yeap. I love the view from this window. ^^.

Is the pun relating to the fact that electrons are always spinning around the nucleus? Though I doubt it. The fundamental nature of the electron (as a negative charge) may also come into play, in which case I have no idea as well.

Close. Electrons also have an intrinsic spin too. Physicist are now trying to manipulate that spin for storing quantum information.

Ah yes I forgot about the intrinsic spin, I remember reading about it a long time ago. Good stuff if it works out.

I didn’t get the pun, thou at first I’ve read it as “erection” instead of “electron” oh my my

Hi Ken,
i usually read Luis’s blog, from time to time (Luis@Keio).
That conferece looks pretty nice, but Tokyo’s summer is quite hot, wouldn’t it be better up north in Hokkaido?
I guess you refer about manipulating the m-spin of the electron, not the S-spin
(just to let you know there was a physicist reading around).

Hey, thanks for stopping by. ^^.
My pun was trying to tie “electron spin” to “spin control“.
Something along the lines of “you can spin it all and any way you want, but you can’t escape the truth”.
Too deep?

That’s too deep for me, i prefer spinless bosons
