Reminiscing past work desks
今懐かしいムードにはいってしまった。。。Just felt like reminiscing a little tonight. My excuse? It is the first of October. 0110 or 1001 whichever way you look at it. Just zeroes and ones. ^^. Looked through my photo library for photos of my research labs and found some pretty memorable photos.
This photo you see on top is of the lab I entered when I came to Japan for my Masters degree. Can you guess where I sat? It’s pretty obvious if you know what fruits I like. ^^. It was a little messy, but it was cosy. Tight quarters meant that you had to interact with your neighbours… which I like to… alot! We did rearrange to room when our little family grew. I drew out the new layout. It was later improved upon when our family grew again. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep any photos. Kinda regret not chronicling the events. It’s a good memory to reminisce on.
A friend had a photo of our lab before we cleaned out. Grabbed the photo from her flickr account.

It was taken from the other corner of the room. Doesn’t it look more spacious than the first picture?
There were definitely more Apples. A side effect of having me around. ^^.
When I grew up and started my PhD, I had another desk. This was what it looked like right before I had to move again. My Professor lost his fight with cancer and our little family was put to sail on the four winds. It was a tough time for all of us.
I moved into another lab with another one of my colleague. Know where I sit? ^^. It was spacious and pretty nice. Facilities were great and even though I spent a mere 6 months there, I spent long hours working on my dissertation. It was not easy adapting to new surroundings. Especially given our circumstances. The people there were very friendly and did their best to integrate us in. That helped alot and I’m very grateful to them. It was a good 6 months.
6 months later, I successfully completed my PhD and found myself moving again! Unfortunately my new room (still within the university) is filled with lots of hush hush quantum-computing-atom-splitting-electron-fusing equipment. Only allowed to show you my work desk. ^^.
Who knows where I’ll be 6 months later.
I like reminiscing. It warms the heart.
Here’s a Japanese song to help put you in the mood too. チェリー (Cherry) by Spitz.
It starts with 「君を忘れない。。。」 I can’t forget you…
