At Tsutaya today, I saw a poster that read "4 CDs for ¥1000". Something snapped inside and I just went.
"Time to work on my lounge collection".
I’m not an expert on the Lounge genre, but I do know what I like and what I don’t. It’s a good thing Tsutaya allows us to give the CDs an earful before deciding to rent it or not. A pity they don’t allow us to listen to it on our Macintoshes. Nope. That would definitely be bad for business now wouldn’t it. ^^.
This is how I usually pull out lounge CDs. Covers. The process works like so. Cover looks interesting, pickup, listen, like the first 2 songs, grab. Picked out 4 today, went home with all 4 for ¥1000. I must be getting pretty good at selecting. ^^.
The last time I went on a CD spree, it was House. Found a few gems too. I’m still in love with Kimara Lovelace’s Only you. Embedded it here. You like it?
How adventurous are you when it comes to music?

Most of my music is from anime/game OSTs. I pretty much prefer japanese songs better because of the unique and uber refreshing sound and because of that, I’ve long been lost track from western songs which I used to love. I admit I even like Britney Spears’ and other shitty pop songs when I was still in high school although I’ve already been starting to love japanese musics then.

During early college days (2002) I started to listen to TMR, Dreams Come True, Toshi Kubota, Utada Hikaru since my aunt got few of their albums (except for Hikki’s) so I tried listening to them and from there on got addicted. Pretty almost all genre I listen as long as japanese but now, I listen to almost any Jpop/rock as long as it sounds good. I also listen to anime/game OSTs since it’s all instrument good to hear them.

I love lounge music! And I usually select mine the same way as you, cover and name. All of these look good, I have a couple of the Tokyo Luxury Lounge compilations, it’s great stuff.
Used to listen to a lot of house before too, but I tend to listen to more bossa nova/lounge these days, the embedded song is pretty good though!
And ¥1000 for 4 CDs? You’d never find a deal like that here T_T

I prefer to have some lounge / easy listening music playing just for some background ambience when I’m surfing the internet posting pictures blogging reading blogs etc. as long as its not too distracting.
As for types of music that I dont know I also go by the cover and maybe I will go onto the internet to “prelisten” some of the tracks.
For genres I grew up with alot of hiphop but I’m open for almost everything except hardcore techno music (Also known as Schranz in Germany/Europe). ^^

I don’t usually pay attention to the genres. Whatever has a good beat and goes with my flow works. Although, I do have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of heavy metal and intense country songs. The song above, I like!
Never knew that “lounge” was a genre. Learned something new~

funny you should mention heavy metal… ^^. I had a friend who was a HUGE metal fan. he was even in a band playing bass! he introduced me to metal. i don’t know if you know Rhapsody or Luca Turilli… but their songs are in my “power song” playlist for whenever I need a rush of adrenaline.
Just some examples.

hmmm… a rather long reply it became. ^^. what do you think of those songs?

I definitely see what you mean by “power song” from the three. My take, not bad. Don’t know if it’s something that I’d pick up myself, but am always up for something new. I feel like I need to be bopping up and down in my seat while listening to those though.

Great selection you got there Ken, you got taste! I have been listening to Hed Kandi – Beach House today. Sometimes I like Fat John and Nujabes. But my music knowledge is very shallow….
