My Magic Mouse arrived in the mail 2 days ago. I was going to write about it straightaway, but decided it best to use the mouse for a few days and let it sink in before reviewing it. So, 2 days later and my thoughts so far? Well, it has replaced my wireless Mighty Mouse. ^^.
When I opened up the box that contained the Magic Mouse, I was amazed. It does come in a very compact case. Compact and very pretty. For one thing, there’s very little paper that comes with it. No big cardboard boxes. Looks like Apple brought their iPod packaging techniques to the Magic Mouse. ^^.
Battery was placed in mouse and it only came with a few slips of disclaimer mini booklets.
The Magic Mouse on a pedestal. It’s very nice to hold.
Compared to the Mighty Mouse, the Magic mouse has slim profile. It’s as if the Mighty Mouse got put on a beauty diet. You can see Apple removed those side buttons from the Magic Mouse. I do miss those buttons a little. I sometimes still try to squeeze the sides to activate exposé.
About 2 finger swiping, I’ve seen some review videos where the mouse moves when someone swipes it with 2 fingers. That was the case for me too initially. Until I realize that I didn’t need a heavy touch to activate the swiping gestures. A feather light touch does just as well. My mouse doesn’t move anymore once I’ve adapted to its sensitivity. Having a light touch does have its benefits elsewhere. ^^.
I must admit, the new Magic Mouse really makes my Mighty Mouse look old and bloated…
The Magic Mouse glides on those two strips of black plastic on its underbelly. It’s runs pretty smooth on my wood table. I read Apple is using lasers to track surfaces. That just means better precision for us using the mouse.
The surface of the Magic Mouse is quite smooth and I just like rubbing and petting mousey. I didn’t find it particularly useful when I used it with my Macbook Pro. I always went back to the glass trackpad. Being near the keyboard, I could access the trackpad without moving my hands much. Besides, the glass trackpad does recognize more gestures than the Magic Mouse right now. Pinching and 3-4 finger swipes don’t work on the Magic Mouse just yet. I don’t know why Apple didn’t enable it on the Magic Mouse. If it’s a software thing, I’m sure Apple will just release a downloadable software update for it in the near future.
I like the Magic Mouse. Would like it even more if I could pinch and swipe to activate zoom and exposé just like I can on the glass trackpad of a Macbook Pro.
Until then, I’ll just keep on rubbing mousey’s back. ^^.

The aesthetics are beautiful, but the mouse is too thin to be comfortable for my preferences. 1st photo is gorgeous

As pretty as all their mice are, honestly Apple has always sucked at making them usable. I mean I used the puck mouse, then the Pro mouse, Mighty Mouse etc, and then played around with this one too — honestly in terms of ergonomics they all are absolutely useless. Been using my Logitech (or Logicool) MX Revolution, and that thing has been a beauty so far

I did own that MX mouse. Used it for a while but went back to the mighty mouse. It’s a good mouse, but I felt restricted because it couldn’t scroll sideways… I guess I’m weird like that. ^^.

Looks and sounds cool, I am wondering about the ease of use though as other commenters mentioned. But why do they still use AA batteries ?!

I was going to get one last week before we moved but the apple store ran out. Now that we moved, I have plenty to keep me busy organizing our new place. I probably will be a while until I get a chance to get one now….
