Odaiba Gundam at night
After a long day’s work, I went to Odaiba to check out the 1:1 giant life sized Gundam that’s being built in Odaiba. It’s really impressive. Will definitely be going back again when it officially opens. The Gundam is very detailed. Click here to see a giant version of this photo in flickr. You HAVE TO see the details on this life sized Gundam. You can just about read the words “Caution”, “Armor Lock” etc on its hot bod.
GREEN TOKYO ガンダムプロジェクト. GREEN TOKYO Gundam Project is behind this. Although it’s already completed, it will be officially open during 2009年7月11日(土)~8月31日(月). Know what (土) and (月) mean? ^^. It looks complete, even the homepage says it’s complete. One month ahead of schedule. It will be extremely crowded in July and August. If you have a chance, go down there and see it now. It’s usually quieter at night. You’ll probably enjoy it more.
Kinda like this photo of the RX78. Might use it as a wallpaper for a bit. ^^.
This is a 1:1 scale model. So as good as the real thing without all the hydraulics. I always thought they were much bigger though. They always do in the anime.
Remember to bring a tripod if you’re thinking of going at night. If you don’t have one handy, find something flat to use. This is me performing some MacGyver-ing with the ground and my coin pouch. ^^.
My favorite Gundams are those with wings or wing like components. I do like the Red Frame Astray too. It has a nice big katana. What about you? Have a favorite?
Right now the base isn’t visible, but from the artist impressions on the website, the RX78 is standing on a base and one will be able to go right up to touch it when everything is done. Don’t think that will happen though… Green Tokyo wouldn’t like someone climbing into the cockpit and taking off with it. ^^.
Looks pretty nice with the city in the background.
Can you name the guy with his arms up in the air? Cookie for you if you guess right.
Might also use this one as a wallpaper too.
Managed to borrow a tripod from Danny who was the only one amongst us that remembered to bring it. I forgot mine when I left the door. Bring a tripod if you’re planning on going at night. It’s a must!
After the official launch, there’ll be spotlights lighting the Gundam up from below. The RX78 will also sport/emit funky body lights too.
I’ve almost perfected my 瞬身の術 (Shushin no jutsu). ^^.

At dinner with the guys before heading off to the Gundam site. Good was food. ^^. Cosy little Indonesian restaurant called Surabaya in Aqua City Odaiba. Me had Mie Ayam. Sambal was good!
Check out their blogs too for more awesome photos!

Suddenly, we’re in New York. ^^. What do you think? Should we have Life sized Gundams everywhere? I reckon we should. Who knows, hundreds of years later, Gundams might be the new Moai. ^^. Really hope they keep the Gundam around long after the end of August. You?
