Lost my chilli tongue

夜来香

Before I came to Japan, I was infamous among my friends for my chilli devouring abilities. Some in the family credit my mum for my abilities as she consumed bucket loads of chilli when she was expecting me. This probably contributed to my fiery temper as a 3 year old. ^^.

After 5 years in Japan, I’m afraid to admit… I’ve lost my abilities. 夜来香 (2nd from right) is a chilli sauce only available in a small Malaysian town where my grandparents live. The kanji reads “night-come-smell”. I’ll leave the interpretation to your imagination.

It didn’t cause me discomfort before… Now, even a slight drop releases a barrage of “辛い” from my tongue. In an attempt to regain my chilli tongue, I’ve decided to include a few drops in my meals everyday, whenever possible. That, and a few packets of tissue and a jar of cold tea. Wish me luck!

Haha good luck!! I like chilli hot food too though I dont think my chilli level is that high =)
Here in Germany we have a famous “curry wurst” which is german bratwurst with ketchup/curry sauce with different grades of “hotness” A to F I believe. They use some kind of weird sauce that has a crazy level on the “scoville scale”. I have never tried it but maybe I’ll go to there and blog about it. I’ll let you know.

It is known amongst Arabs that drinking Laban (A drink between milk and yogurt) or consuming yogurt can help relieve any burns due to chili. If you have noticed, even if you drink a jug of water, the burning sensation of chili remains. However Laban (or yogurt) remove that sensation. Don’t ask me how =3
