Erasable Frixion pens

I was at LOFT the other day, just browsing. I always check out the stationary section when I’m at LOFT. Has Japan been referred to as stationary heaven yet? ^^. Found myself stuck at the Frixion pens corner.

Frixion products

It’s a pen, water-based ink. The unique thing about it is that the ink is “erasable”. Forget those old fashion ink erasers that take a big chuck of the paper with the thing you’re trying to erase. Frixion works like a charm. How does it work? The hint is in the name.

Frixion 消えるって便利!

あんな時、こんな時、消えるって便利!Erasable anytime, convenient! Each pen comes with a tip which you use to erase. There’s a disclaimer on the pen.

Do not use for important documents.

How it works in a nutshell. The water-soluble ink loses its color when exposed to temperatures above 60 degrees celsius. Technically, you don’t erase it. You rubber it and the ink becomes colorless. That’s thinking out of the box for ya! I love it. It has replaced my mechanical pencils which I use predominately for writing equations, sketching figures etc. When I make a mistake, I just erase it. ^^.

Frixion color pens

A whole box of color pens for you penaddicts. Probably great for sketching.

Frixion highlighters

The thing that amazed me the most was the erasable highlighters. Erasable highlighters!

Frixion biz

There were also stylish Frixion biz pens, but they were quite pricey. Over ¥1000. The standard Frixion pens were only about ¥200. I got myself 2 standard black and purple pens. I want to start a trend. Instead of aka-pen, I’m going to be murasaki-pen. ^^.

Want to see how it works, check out the pen in action here. It has a neat tune to whistle to.

Japan has always been my stationary heaven!
However my experience with eraseable pens (I bought this eraseable one time in AUSTRALIA in year 6)….well the first few pages of my homework book were erased after the opening and closing of the book for 6months.. XD
Probably I can rely on the the Japanese version to not rub out like that.

The R&D that goes into designing these Japanese pens and pencils always amazes me. I have a mechanical pencil that automatically rotates the pencil lead so that the point is always sharp!
