Sea of taxis in Sendai

Sendai Station 001

Sendai is a beautiful city. Lots of green, lots of beautiful girls and lots of beef tongue set meals. ^^. Although not as big a station as Tokyo or Shinjuku, Sendai station does have its very own sea of taxis!

A little bit about Sendai from big brother wikipedia.

Sendai (仙台市 Sendai-shi) is the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and the largest city in the Tōhoku (northeast) region. The city has a population of one million and is one of Japan’s seventeen designated cities. The city was founded in 1600 by the daimyo Date Masamune (伊達政宗 Date Masamune), and is well known by its nickname, the “City of Trees” (杜の都 Mori no Miyako).

You have to walk across a few train lines to get to the west exit on the other side. The west side is quite different. It feels spacious and more modern. Not much in terms of shopping though.

I’ve been to Sendai twice. Once for work and once and pleasure. It is one of my favourite cities in Japan. Wouldn’t mind staying there too. Sure, it’s a little far from Akiba, but I found a otaku hideout on my previous trip. That would scratch some itches. There’s even an Apple store there. Yodobashi is right next to the station, the west end. Some cities I heard don’t have Yodobashi… hmm…

Probably the things I’ll miss are the events that go on in Tokyo. ^^. Just wondering, anyone reading this lives in Sendai?

The sea of taxis looks even more spectacular at night.

Have you been in a Japanese taxi? Sometimes I find the drivers are a little too liberal on the pedal and brake. Not to mention making quick and sudden turns. Must be because some roads here are pretty narrow. But I’m all used to it now. ^^.

Traffic every morning.

Keyless lockers. All you need, is a suica card or equivalent.

Really like those elevated walkways they have outside the station.

The best way to get to Sendai from Tokyo? Hop on the shinkansen. If I remember correctly, it was about a 2 hour or so ride.

Double decker Yamabiko shinkansen. You like it on top or at the bottom?

I’ve only taken a taxi once in Japan and that was from the Palace Hotel in Tokyo to the Shinkansen station. It was a smooth ride, quite different to your experiences.
    Never seen double decker shinkansen!

You should come up to Niigata. Most of the shinks up here are double decker. A bit annoying with luggage, but I guess that’s what KuroNeko is there for!

The pictures gives such an eerie mood (was it really that empty!?) but, they are stunning. Keep it up. ^^

Some feelings of nostalgia reading this post. I had a car when I lived outside of Sendai, so I never took a cab there except to go bar-hopping. Was glad to have an abundance of taxis at time like those.

    Ohhh Sendai,
    how I miss you!!

I spent quite a few days in Sendai while I was there.
    Shopping and etc,
I was excited about the Apple store as well.

    Your shinkansen went through Koriyama,
    if I’m correct.
I lived in a very small (20,000 tops) town 13 minutes by train from Koriyama.
