Apple packaging is always ever so slick. Front…
and back.
I finally got to opening up my unibody MacBook. Got it about a month ago and it had been under my table the whole time till yesterday when I had the time. I planned on doing it the old-fashioned way and not use migration assistant this time around. Hence, the long wait between getting it and actually using it.
I’ve been using Macs for quite a while now. Don’t quite remember how other laptops are packed… Sometimes I wonder why there are always more unpacking pics of Macs than PCs; unpacking and dismantling pics.
Viola. My new MacBook, Acts. I tend to like biblical names for my Apples. Get it? The book of Acts? ^^. Well, that and also because it’s 2009. We should all take action and act this year! Do you name your computers?
Simple packaging. That’s all there is to it.
“Everything Mac” and “Everything else”… and a nice black Apple cloth for cleaning the glass display.
The MacBook comes completely wrapped in plastic with a sticker seal. Check out the underbelly of the MacBook. Nothing much there. Completely clean. No unsightly stickers and no uneven surfaces with air vents here and there. Smooth clean surface. I know most people don’t care about what’s underneath, but I do. ^^. I have yet to see any other laptop/notebook manufacturer with any designs in the market that have a clean underbelly.
In terms of weight, the MacBook is about 700g heavier than the MacBook Air. Is that a big different to you? In terms of thickness…
You get the idea. The MacBook Air is just about as thick as the MacBook’s one piece unibody. Actually, it’s much thinner. The rubber stands give the air some extra height.
Unwrapping the MacBook.
Everything else aside, this is probably one of the design features I really appreciate on the new MacBook. Let’s see how SSD prices fare this year. ^^.
Black vs. grey.
The MacBook Air and the MacBook side by side.
Although the MacBook has a thicker screen and is thicker overall, it’s more flexible than its supermodel sibling. You can push the screen down a few extra degrees.
Comparing thickness again. See my new foofbag in the background? ^^.
Keyboard’s the same as the Air. I got used to the “button-less” trackpad straightaway. You can use it like how you always use the trackpad. The glass touchpad is extremely smooth. Much smoother than the trackpad on the air. It’s a real joy to slide your fingertips across it. Once I’ve used it, the air’s trackpad just feels rough.
MacBook Air and MacBook in their respective foofbags.
I got the 2.4GHz MacBook with 4GB of ram. Didn’t customize anything else except for ram. At least not until SSD prices drop. ^^. With an education discount, you can get this configuration for less than ¥200,000. Pretty reasonable for a mac of this calibre. Of course, nothing beats the low low price of free. ^^.
