Aso, another prime minister
Just read on Japan Today that Taro Aso has rejected calls to resign. Granted things are somewhat abnormal in the world now, 3 months is fast don’t you think?
Current (up to the predecessor’s predecessor) Prime Ministers in Japan can’t seem to hold on to their jobs. I can name a few recent Japanese Prime Ministers. Ryutaro Hashimoto, Keizho Obuchi, Yoshiro Mori, Junichiro Koizumi, Shinzo Abe, Yasuo Fukuda and Taro Aso. 7 names. How did you do? Check with the list of Prime Ministers of Japan. Hashimoto’s era was when I started following the news.
Both his predecessors were around only for a year. I wonder if Aso can at least last that long given the current economic climate. He did study at the London School of Economics, so I guess he should be able to talk the talk when it comes to the subject. But it doesn’t really seem that way given the current news coverage.
I’m a little dull and don’t get the stimulus payout that he is proposing to encourage spending. If I were Prime Minister and I wanted people to spend, I would temporarily remove the GST. I reckon signs of “tax-free!!” (…) should encourage more spending than just ¥12,600 in my pocket. Anyone with the right credentials care to tell me the implications of removing the GST, besides less ¥1 coins exchanging hands?
…those are probably the reasons why I’m not Prime Minister. ^^.
How about some chocolate beer?
