NHK red white singing battle royale

December 28th, 2008

My my, we are already at the 59th 紅白歌合戦 (こうはくうたがっせん) kouhaku uta gassen. 紅白歌合戦 is an annual event on new year’s eve. The program ends after the countdown to the new year. NHK brings popular singers together and segregate them into groups; girls in the red group and guys in the white group. They then battle it out by performing the hit songs of the year. One of the programs that most Japanese keep on the TV when at home on new year’s eve. Me too.

Just realised that the Japanese iTunes music store has created a page with links to all the songs that will be sung. Nifty eh.

I wrote about this a while back. DJ Ozma got banned from the program because he and his dancers “stripped” during the live broadcast. Check out the live performance here.

Always watch Kouhaku every year since 3 years ago, and I pretty much like the last year Kouhaku because a lot of my favorites was in there… XD

Time sure flies and we’re now on the 59th Kouhaku now, that was fast! Just checked out the artist and song line up, looks pretty interesting…. =D Not going to miss this of course, but too bad I can’t watch it live…. ;_:

Man, that DJ Ozma song rocked. Shame there were a few prudes in the NHK studios and he gt banned. That sort of thing would just be lapped up in Britiain. A bit of toplessness isn’t considered a problem at all. But what time was the show aired..? Midnight, right? Should be no problem then.
