So… I finally got to trying the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Japan! Quarter Pounders are a norm down under in Australia. Double quarters as well. I used to work part-time when I was still in Sydney. Mostly overnight shifts. Used to make myself a triple quarter pounder just before going on breaks. ^^. That was a meal.
A normal double quarter meal will set you back ¥790 while by itself, 単品 (tanpin), ¥490. With the ¥ strengthening, how does that compare with prices overseas? A quarter pounder is no big mac, is there a separate index for it like the big mac index?
There are many cashless ways to pay for your food here. Edy is one of those stored value chips you can find in many credit cards, point cards (ANA) and cellphones. A handy way to pay. I usually use cash. I remember in Sydney, you could pay with your debit card and withdraw money too at the Mcdonald’s cashier. Pay for a $5 meal and say, “I want $50 cash out”. The cashier will charge $55 to your card and hand you a neat $50. It’s not so, but it sure makes people feel good that they are “getting” money to eat. ^^. Very convenient system don’t you think? ^^.
Maccas has also started using this new “eco style” bag. Instead of a thin paper bag in a plastic bag, they now instead hand you your food in a thick brown paper bag. I don’t think this is new though… I seem to have a vague recollection of brown mcdonald’s paper bags. Anyone have this vague image in their memory too?
So, now instead of carrying 1 plastic bag, I have to carry 2 brown paper bags. Does this sound right? I don’t see myself growing an extra arm anytime soon…
Double quarters here come in a box. A yummy looking picture of the burger is printed on the paper bag in the back. That and “This is ECO STYLE”.
The buns looked a little small though.

I’ve never been to Maccas where they have plastic bags. It has always been paper bags, 3/4 different sizes.
I find that Big Mac Index funny, working 97 minutes in Colombia just to get a Big Mac. That’s epic!
