At this little shop in Otaru, I ran into the ever exclusive Jyagapokkuru. じゃがポックル。
It’s a pack of potato strips. Premium potato strips from a famous potato farm in Hokkaido. It was really really difficult to find this snack. It was sold out everywhere else.
Stock probably just came in as it was still early in the morning. The early tourist grabs the exclusive potato! I don’t think their supplies will last through the day. ^^. I had friends returning from Hokkaido disappointed because they could not get their hands on a pack of jyagapokkuru. Although it’s also available at the airport, I’ve heard horror stories about people queuing up hours for it… ok.. maybe hours is a little exaggerated.
¥840 a pack. One pack per customer. It is quite tasty. Has a very rich and full potato taste and texture. If you’re ever in Hokkaido, this should be one of those snacks that should go back with you. Just to name a few, others probably being 白い恋人 (white lover), 生キャラメル (candy made from fresh caramel cream) etc. If you can, local produce like vegetables and seafood are also good souvenirs. ^^.
There were also 2 different sets available. For people who want more. Of course, you get other stuff in it as well. This set includes one jyagapokkuru and 2 packs of hot potato soup. Limited to 2 sets per customer.
This set comes with 2 jyagapokkuru, a pack of hot potato soup and a pack of jyagariko.
I only made it back with 1 ¥840 pack.
The shop is conveniently named Otaru-ya (小樽屋), near the popular canal in Otaru.
Here it is on the map!
