The Bicycle Snatchers
When in bicycle country Japan, one should be careful when parking one’s two wheels. ^^.
Some Japanese are quite lax when it comes to bicycle security. While there are a number of bicycles securely parked at allocated parking grounds, which aren’t necessarily free, you can always find bicycles casually parked around here and there. Most of which aren’t even locked properly – locking one wheel is not safe in my book. Why? This is why.
To lock a bicycle, I recommend this. This was the only bike the bicycle snatchers couldn’t take. ^^. The bicycle snatchers are the distant cousins of parking inspectors; park your bicycle illegally and get it “towed” away if they happen to bring a truck with them. Once with them, you’ll have to visit the local pound and reclaim your bicycle… it usually includes paying a fine too.
At the end of the day, how you lock your bicycle determines if it’s there when you return to pick it up. Where and how you park it is also important too. You won’t want to come back to a bike like this. ^^.
