Kawazoe Tamaki

You do Kendo? I used to do Kendo. I used to be crazy about it. I enjoyed sweating and screaming at the top of my lungs. ^^. Kendo’s a great sport.

So, being an ex-kendoka and still a fan of most things Kendo. That probably includes manga as well. I want you to meet Kawazoe Tamaki, 川添珠姫, from Bamboo Blade. She’s a first year high school student from Muroe High School. And she just happens to be the strongest kendoka in the Kendo Club. I’m guessing it has everything to do with her family running a Kendo Dojo and her picking up the Shinai when she was 4.

Trivia. The family names of almost every character in Bamboo Blade are taken from past winners of the All Japan Kendo Championships. Kawazoe’s name was taken from a 2-time champion who won in 1968 and 1971. Someone really did their homework. ^^.

I first saw this figure at summer wonfes 08. She was a special wonfes event figurine. Alas. By the time I got there, she was all gone… which got me thinking. Why was she on sale at the Kotobukiya store when she was supposed to be sold out. Probably a re-release. The event-only figure is rightly named the “Kawazoe Dojo” version. Differences between the special event-only version and the normal version is not that great. Although the surface of the flooring for the figure base is different, the most noticeable difference is the all creamy white dogi and hakama instead of the pure white dogi and dark blue hakama. Hair shade is different. Furthermore, the event-only figure comes with a small cat figure. This figure has awesome detail. Check out the Shinai!

    Trivia, not trivial.

Haha, yeah someone really did their homework. Also Kotobukiya announced beforehand that they would open preorders for her after Wonfes, though I think the one sold at the event itself was cheaper.

    Tama-chan!
I’ve always been a fan of Kendo but, never got the opportunity to be a part of it. Recently, however, I have found a local Kendo Dojo… I shall make haste!

It’s good to see that these things are well researched, allows us to have more respect, in the end.
