A while ago, I replaced a broken hard disk of an old Mac mini. Once everything was up and running, I bought some AV cables and connected it to my TV at home. I was hoping to turn it into something like an Apple TV (don’t have the real thing). ><. Maybe not exactly like an Apple TV, but at least an entertainment box for movies, music etc… So far I’ve only been using it to watch movies. Front Row’s really good on a big screen. It also doubles up as a DVD player. People tell me that watching DVD on a PS2 isn’t really good for the drive. ^^.
With everything all setup, the only thing that I felt was missing is a proper keyboard and mouse. I have an old wireless keyboard and mouse lying around, but they felt chunky in the living room… especially on the sofa. Enter the Logitech (Logicool in Japan) diNovo mini! It’s a keyboard and mouse. Well, the mouse is just a little trackpad on the top right. It has 2 modes. A trackpad mode and a directional pad mode. They work fine. Trackpad’s not too sensitive though. A little difficult to cover the whole screen with just a swipe of the finger. Something I have to get used to I guess (until logitech releases some mac support updates). Yeap. Officially, this little baby isn’t supported on the Mac. Even the CD that came in the box specifically had the two words “Windows XP” and “Windows Vista” on it. Don’t know how useful that CD will be if you’re planning on using this with your PS3. ^^ But…. It does work on the Mac. My mini is running Mac OSX 10.5.4. No problems there. The system automatically recognizes the diNovo mini. Pretty neat eh. The keyboard has basic functionality. Some keys aren’t mapped properly and, honesty, I haven’t had the time to sit down and figure it out. So far I’ve been able to move the cursor and type. Gotta investigate a little more with the other keys. Although I think all these problems can be fixed by Logitech using software. They did say Mac support is in the works. Do you have a computer in the living room? Something like an entertainment box? I try to not spend too much time in front of the computer, but I can’t escape it anymore… I have computers connected to every screen at home! >< !!! woah!! an earthquake… a minor one. I hope it’s not a big one at the epicenter… Anyway, what about you? Do you go straight into your cave when you get home and never come out unless you’re hunting for food? ^^.
