Spoken with a hint of “Open Sesame”. ^^
I kinda inherited a Mac Mini with a broken hard disk. It has been sitting in the corner for quite a while now. I wasn’t procrastinating. I need to free some time up for surgery. ^^. Time to give it a new hard disk. Choosing the right one was a big decision, but I went with the cost/GB ratio. Figure that’s the best bet on getting good value for a hard disk.
All you need to replace the hard disk. A turner (from the 100yen store), the new hard disk and of course your Mac Mini.

Use the turner and carefully remove the casing. Much easier to slip in if you use a thin turner. Others might use a putty knife. Goes with whatever does the job. It’s not my first time opening up a Mac Mini, did it once before to add more RAM to an old G4 mini. First time to replace the hard disk though.

Open wide. There are some cables connected at the back. So you shouldn’t pull hard. When opening, watch out for a small connector at the front.

See this little dude here? That’s the wifi antenna.

Need something to rest the top frame against while I take out the hard disk. The case is useful just for doing this.

I know I bought a Buffalo hard disk, but seems like it was manufactured by Western Digital. Cool stuff. Original hard disk’s a Seagate.

Once the hard disk’s in, pack everything back in. Screws and all.

Does not say made by Apple. Manufactured to Apple’s Specifications. That’s why getting AppleCare might be a smart move sometimes.

Once I’ve got everything in, got to test it out first before putting the cap back on. It purrs like a kitten. I used the DVI to VGA connector and connected it to my TV’s VGA port. My TV didn’t have a DVI port. But it did have an HDMI one. ^^ If you were following me on twitter, you’ll know that I was out shopping for cables this afternoon. HDMI to DVI cables are freaking expensive! To connect audio, I just used a simple analog audio connector.

That’s it. When everything is running smoothly, time to put the cap back on.

Lunch. Bear ramen from Hokkaido! Decided on having the brown bear soy sauce flavored one for today.

Bean sprouts are optional. Lightly fry some bean sprouts with salt and pepper and just garnish it on top. Yummy stuff.
