Traditional Jeju market
Right before leaving Jeju, we had a few hours to kill. So… where did we go? We went to the traditional market near the airport. Actually, we thought we were going to a shopping area… you know, consumer shopping. However, imagine our surprise when we found fruits, meat, vegetables and lots of seafood at the market! Just like a wet market! So much for our plans to go souvenir shopping… however, all’s not lost! We managed to find a supermarket at the end of the street!
Jeju oranges… lots of Jeju oranges.
There’s kimchi and many other things whose names I do not know. Any Koreans reading this? Maybe you can give us an idea of that’s there ^^.
Again… ignorant me… don’t know what fish this is. But it’s all over the place! There were quite a number of stalls selling this. This and some other small fish.
Where’s the rest of this pig?!
I suppose this is where the housewife goes to get kimchi-making spices.
Squid is also quite popular here. They do swim backwards!
Abalone and other shellfish.
More funky seafood! With all the guts out for all to see. Rays I think.
Us trying to explain where we want to go (airport) to the cabby. We had to whip out a map and point to the airport. Thing is, not many people speak English there. Occasionally you might meet one or two who speak Japanese… your odds are higher if you only go to tourist areas. I never felt so lost before ^^. At least Japan uses Kanji. Someone like me can still guess what it’s about. In Korea, it’s all Hangul! A good place to go to get lost and have an adventure.
