I wasn't too impressed but... all the Japanese around gasped and were amazed! It was pretty ridiculous. Also, some of the carvings are pretty famous, such as the elephant carving. The artist had never seen an elephant, but had heard about them. He created his version/vision of an elephant, which actually turned out pretty close to what an actual elephant looks like. Very interesting. Also, some of the structures in the shrine complex were gifts from foreign kings, lords and etc. Hmm, I'm a bit of a Japanese history geek (: Did you visit the hall where you can hear the dragon’s roar?
