Bought a new pair of jeans lately while exploring Tressa Yokohama recently. Tressa is a new openly departmental store a little bit further in from Tsunashima station along the Toyoko line. It’s spacious and littered with seats so it’s possible to do the “buy-food-sit-and-eat” maneuver.

Anyway, I entered this clothing store. I think it’s called METHOD. They carried lots of Japanese-styled clothes. Fancy t-shirts with embroideries. You might to check them out at a local reseller (just click コチラ). This pair of jeans was on sale and I picked it up. It’s a pretty cool pair. On the left, there’s a painting of a famous story about compassion. This is the Buddhist version (there are other versions).

蜘蛛の糸

In Japan, the story is called 「蜘蛛の糸」(くものいと), or a spider’s thread. If you’re interested, you can find the Japanese version here and the English translation here. I’ve read it before when I was much younger in a comic book about Zen.

蜘蛛の糸

A murderous criminal in hell was offered an escape by Buddha via a spider’s thread because his only good deed in life was sparing the life of a tiny spider. While he was climbing up, he noticed his hellmates climbing up after him. He shouted, “This is mine! Let go of It!”. *snap* went the spider thread and everyone fell back into hell. Morale of the story? Don’t kill spiders. ^^. If you look at the painting closely, you’ll see Buddha on top holding out a line and skeletons below climbing up. A new addition to my jeans collection. It’s pretty neat don’t you think?

why are Japanese jeans so good quality? I bought a pair of sugar cane ones 2 years ago and they are fantastic even though I wear them practically all the same. Japanese products have such good quality

I totally agree! Especially the denim. You have big brands like ebisu which design certain jeans for the international market. I myself have 2! I find Japanese denim to be generally thicker and it feels really solid! It’s all in the care in making the jeans I guess. You can kinda feel the amount of quality that goes into making one when you put it on. Don’t you agree? Thanks for telling me about sugar canes. I’ll be sure to check them out!
